Melbourne support group for people in recovery from an eating disorder. Takes place on the first Monday of the month in Abbotsford. About this Event The Abbotsford Recovery Support Group is for people with an eating disorder who have already taken the first steps towards recovery but would like some extra support. It’s open to people of any age or gender who are experiencing any type of eating disorder – the only restriction is that you must be over 18 to attend, and not a current hospital in-patient or someone whose physical or emotional health is severely compromised. It is not a therapy group, but a peer support group for sharing experiences, discovering new coping strategies and stress management skills in a safe environment where you can enjoy the interaction with people in a similar situation to your own. The support group is anonymous and people meet on a first name basis only. No phone numbers or personal details are permitted to be exchanged on the premises between participants. Trained volunteers facilitate all EDV Support Groups. Active participation is recommended but is optional – we understand that it can take time for you to feel comfortable enough to speak to others. If you’re not sure if you’re ready for group interaction, we suggest you contact the EDV Helpline on 1300 550 236 to have a chat about your options.
