Come along and immerse yourself in how Queensland soldiers celebrated Christmas during World War I This talk will reveal how Queensland soldiers celebrated Christmas during World War I. With Australias entry into the First World War in August 1914, the opportunities to celebrate Christmas for many Australian soldiers would be limited. Though limited, somehow, they did and some of their undertakings were captured on film or documented with letters, postcards or with personal accounts. Through the State Librarys digital collection and other sources, this talk will present some of the different ways in which Australian soldiers, particularly Queenslanders, celebrated Christmas away from home during the First World War. After the talk, visitors can stay to explore the Memorial Galleries - embarking on an interactive journey from World War I to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.
