Our
Artful: Art and Dementia
professional development evening will include the latest tools and research for individuals interested in exploring art and creative learning as a way to engage people living with dementia and their support networks.
The evening includes hands-on activities led by artist educators from the MCA’s Artful program, an interactive gallery experience to gain confidence in facilitation skills, and a panel discussion with key experts in the field on best-practice strategies and research.
Attendees will also be the first to see the MCA’s new Artful digital toolkit and will hear insights from our 3-year research report on the impact of the program on participants’ wellbeing and on markers of neuroplasticity. Our toolkit has been created to support the creative engagement of individuals living with dementia at home or in care centres. It will be available worldwide from March 2020 and is filled with step-by-step activities, videos and tips.
All ticket holders will have access to a special discount price for the toolkit on the evening.
Refreshments and snacks will be served from 5pm.
Who can attend?
This event is suitable for creative workers, artists, museum and gallery staff, care partners and all employees from the health, aged-care and support sector.
About Artful: Art and Dementia
The MCA
Artful: Art and Dementia program
began in 2015 as part of a 3-year in pilot research project in collaboration with the Brain and Mind Centre and Dementia Australia (2016–2018). The research focused on the impact of the program on participants’ wellbeing and on markers of neuroplasticity. Over 200 participants have expressed that this program offers new avenues for meaningful connections between people living with dementia and their carers and/or loved ones. We have also seen the impact that art and creative expression can have on participants’ self-esteem, wellbeing and social inclusion. The Artful program has been supported by Platypus Asset Management since 2018 and includes free 6-week programs and community open days throughout the year.
