Being a Woman in Leadership: Own Your Space

Women who look confident on the outside share with me that they don't always feel so confident underneath the armour they've strategically put together.

Women who come across as less confident share how they berate themselves for holding back, not speaking up or stepping forward when they know they have so much to offer.

We sometimes think these women are two different people, but really we're all some of both aren't we? Confident in some things, not so confident in others. Either way, we're usually hard on ourselves and waste a lot of time comparing our weaknesses to another's strengths.

Yes, we want to be recognised as equal and have the same opportunities as men, but sometimes we're silently racing against ourselves, and even each other, to an imaginary finish line.

Owning our space is achieved, not by driving ourselves to exhaustion in our attempt to prove we're worthy of it, but by relaxing into a quiet, authentic inner confidence that allows our true personality, gifts and talents to come through. Owning our space doesn't take space away from others, instead it role models for others that they can own their space too.

Women who attend my breakky events share how they enjoy coming together with like-minded women across a range of industries with the space to hear each other's stories, challenges, strengths and visions for the future. Learning from each other is something they don't expect but revel in as part of a meaningful, fun and expansive experience.
