A space for book lovers to come together, learn new book binding skills and have fun while doing it!

In this class, learn one of the most common book binding stitches - the 5 hole saddle stitch - and walk away with your very own hand stitched blank notebook!

Using beautiful scrap papers, old magazines, lost letters, and paper collage techniques, design a cover and bind it together with waxed linen thread to create your one of a kind notebook.

In addition to learning saddle stitch, you will also

 - be introduced to the tools of the craft

 - learn book binding basics such as folding techniques, paper choices, types of thread, supply stores

 - be shown some DIY tricks so you can book bind at home without all the "necessary" tools

 - plus gain skills on how to re-purpose your scrap papers and magazines into a beautiful hand stitched notebook.

You'll never want to throw things out again!

BRING:

All materials will be provided, BUT if you have beautiful scrap papers you have been hoarding away, or old artworks you've been wanting to use for something, this is the perfect class to use them in! Please, bring them along.

PLEASE NOTE:

This class requires at least five students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class. You will have the option for a full refund or you can transfer into another class date if it suits you.

This class is suitable for ages 14+

ABOUT YOUR HOST:

Kim Siew is  a paper artist, zine maker and educator with a love for paper, the hand made and creating not so perfect but beautiful hand bound books. She has a strong emphasis on sustainable practises when possible and is keen to share nifty DIY tips that will make you look at your trash a little differently. Kim runs Book Bind & Unwind as a way for stationary and craft lovers to come together, learn and create in a warm and welcoming environment.

VENUE:
Located at Thirning Villa at 40 Arthur Street, Ashfield.
We are easily accessible via public transport. We are a 10 minute walk from Ashfield Station. From the station turn left onto Brown Street which will become Holden Street (alongside Ashfield Mall), turn right onto Arthur Street and you will see some tennis courts and a bowling green. Look for the striped roof in the middle of the tennis courts - that's Thirning Villa - to the left of the bowling green.

New Moon acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land we live and meet on, the Gadigal-Wangal people of the Eora Nation, and pays respect to Elders past, present and future. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
