We are keeping a close eye on all updates in relation to COVID-19. Our events up until the end of May have been confirmed as interactive webinars, including our valuable networking sessions and 60 second pitches. If this event becomes a webinar, you will be given an additional free ticket to another event of your choice as a thank you for your support.

The Future Economy Network is happy to announce we will be discussing the opportunities and issues surrounding retrofitting buildings, including local case studies and applicable advice. This event is sponsored by network members Bevan Brittan LLP and will be held at Bristol Marriott Hotel on behalf of Bevan Brittan LLP.

We will be joined by network members Bevan Brittan LLP, BuroHappold, Bristol Energy Network and The Green Register to speak at this event.

More information to be announced.

Lucy Pedler, Director, The Green Register

Lucy will be taking about the Futureproof initiative that The Green Register are running with CSE on training SME builders in sustainable retrofit.

Nathan Bradberry, Partner Infrastructure (Energy and Construction), Bevan Brittan LLP

In a world of climate emergency and the UK’s commitment to zero carbon, Nathan Bradberry will present on the role of district heating and housing energy retro-fit as key contributors to the UK’s transition towards carbon neutrality. The presentation will cover the future ambitions, opportunities and challenges faced in these markets.

Natasha Watson, Senior Structural Engineer, BuroHappold Engineering

Upgrading existing buildings where viable is a key strategy within several of the Construction Declares manifestoes, however retrofitting often loses out to demolition and rebuild as there are fewer unknowns and fewer constraints. Natasha will give an overview of where retrofitting can provide more solutions than problems, to allow you to better argue for a retrofit over demolish and rebuild.

Meet The Speakers!

Lucy Pedler, Director, The Green Register

Lucy is an architect with over 30 years of professional experience in the UK and USA and has particular expertise in sustainable building practices.

Lucy worked as a Product Specialist at Construction Resources, the UK’s first Ecological Building Centre, for five years. She spent the first two years researching the environmental impact of ecologically sound building materials and systems and the subsequent three years advising architects, other professionals and visitors on the appropriate selection of building materials. She was also responsible for running the seminar programme at Construction Resources and still makes regular presentations to architects and other organisations as part of The Green Register team.

Lucy created The Green Register in 2000 as part of her lifelong commitment to the promotion of sustainable building.

Nathan Bradberry, Partner Infrastructure (Energy and Construction), Bevan Brittan LLP

Nathan specialises in energy efficiency and energy performance contracting, working on projects ranging from more straight-forward installation of energy generation equipment, operation and maintenance agreements, through to more substantial procurements of heat networks and district energy schemes.

Natasha Watson, Senior Structural Engineer, BuroHappold Engineering

Natasha works as a Structural Design Engineer and a Structural Job Leader on projects that range in scale and materiality. She is also a member of the Urban C:Lab programme with BuroHappold, where she explores emergent disruption in the built environment. Urban C:Lab is deliberately collaborative, working with clients, designers, academia, think tanks, and institutions.

Natasha completed her EngD with the University of Bristol, University of Bath and BuroHappold Engineering on increasing the understanding of the use of low impact materials in U.K. construction. Her research also looked at ways to improve our assessment of structural options at scheme and concept stage. She is one of the experts leading the development of knowledge on the embodied impacts of construction materials within industry as well as on BuroHappold projects.

This event is sponsored by Bevan Brittan LLP.
