KickArts Contemporary Arts Cobbling workshop with Anne Jillett in conjunction with M&G QLD 2019 Conference 'Opening Doors'
From her Bellenden Kerr studio Ellis Road Fibre Art, Anne Jillett creates stunning woven forms from natural materials, thigh-spun yarn and recycled fabrics. These coiled baskets, unique vessels and suspended forms are inspired by and built upon driftwood, found by the artist while beach combing south of Cairns.
My name is Anne Jillett.
“I live and work in Far North Queensland Australia. My studio is situated deep in the rainforest overlooking the canopy to the spectacular Wooroonooran National Park.
I have always had a great passion for all things textile and have sewn, embroidered, and knitted from a very early age. I like to use natural, man-made and recycled materials to create three dimensional sculptural vessels that explore form using positive and negative space. I am particularly drawn to the ocean as a source of inspiration for my more recent pieces. A fascination with the action of tides and currents, and their sculptural effects on sand and rocks, lie at the heart of my work. The high tide line holds many treasures that are included in the design process. I am passionate about environmental concerns that effect the oceans of our world. While I am not an activist, I hope that my work prompts consideration of this vast natural resource”.
