With heavy hearts, we have had to make the decision to postpone all author events until further notice. While so excited about the opportunities these events offered, we feel it's important to prioritise the health and well being of all involved - the publishers, the authors, our booksellers and you, our customers.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will be in discussions about how best to revisit the event concepts in the future.

Toad in the Hole from Adrian Mole. Sticky Ginger Cake from Five on Treasure Island. Treacle Tart from Harry Potter. Chicken with Tarragon from Anna Karenina. Mouth watering yet?

In The Little Library Cookbook, treat-loving bookworm Kate Young dug her spoon deep into the foodie inspiration to be found inside the covers of our favourite fictional classics. In The Little Library Year, she dished up novel recipes to span the seasons.

Together with 'resident gastrononmer' from Sydney Living Museums and author of Eat Your History Jacqui Newling they will talk about the meaty intersection of food and fiction and those recipes that may fall out of flavour (but still pique our nostalgia).

Please join us for an evening of food for thought and tasty refreshments courtesy of the speakers, including Paddington Marmalade Sandwiches and Heirloom Biscuits.

Kate Young is an award-winning food writer and cook. A dedicated bookworm, she began putting her literary-inspired recipes online in 2014, and was named Blogger of the Year in 2017 by the Guild of Food Writers. Her first book, The Little Library Cookbook, was shortlisted for the Fortnum & Mason's debut food book award and won a World Gourmand food writing award. Her second, The Little Library Year, a cookbook celebrating a year of seasonally-focussed eating and reading, was released late in 2019. Kate writes about food and books for various publications in the UK, and lives in the English countryside.

Jacqui Newling Eat your history: stories and recipes from Australian kitchens, presents our history on a plate, from early colonial settlement to the 1950s and beyond. Author Jacqui Newling is a historian, with a Le Cordon Bleu Master’s degree in Gastronomy, and is a curator at Sydney Living Museums. She uses food as a way of understanding past lives by reviving old recipes, lost techniques and forgotten flavours.
