This practicum is an opportunity for researchers and academics currently using creative methodologies in field work and/or final thesis to share their work, and exchange and learn as a community of practitioners. The structure of the event reflects our interest in supporting, practicing and sharing innovative research methodologies at La Trobe. Please note: All participants are contributors.

To bring our work to life we will present our work using a 'series of lightning talks'. On this occasion each presenter will present for a total of 5 minutes - showing 15 slides for 20 seconds each. Send your PowerPoint presentation for uploading by Friday 10th August to Ben Habib: B.Habib@latrobe.edu.au

What are creative methodologies? They include alternative narrative methods, yarning, art, images, photography, movement, objects, artefacts, soundscapes, video and music into research methodology.

This event is open to La Trobe graduate researchers and academics exploring creative methodologies.

Numbers are limited to 25.

Conveners

Sarah Houseman is a PhD candidate in Politics and Philosophy investigating the culture of NGOs working within non-hierarchical structures. Her methodology is intentionally collaborative and holistic, using drawing and the imagery from the tarot to support iterative meaning making with her case study organisations. She is energised by the ways creative research methodologies engage participants and the academic community.

Aidan Craney is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology researching youth livelihoods and development issues in Fiji and Solomon Islands. Following recent positive experiences with creative methodologies in his own work he is keen to expand his knowledge of their use.

Caitlin Finlayson is a PhD Candidate at the Institute for Human Security and Social Change. Her current project is an action research collaboration with an international NGO exploring how development practice is changing. She is interested in creative methodologies as a means to challenge her ideas about research, the researcher and knowledge production.
