A VITAL CPD TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR BUILDING CERTIFIERS AND BUILDING INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS Background - Safer buildings for Queensland All Queenslanders have the right to feel safe and secure in the environments where they live, work and play. The Queensland Government has taken action to address the use of combustible cladding in Queensland buildings. Accordingly, changes to the Building Regulation 2006,  introduced in October 2018, cover existing buildings, those currently approved and about to commence, or those buildings that are presently under construction. The Non-Conforming Building Products Audit Taskforce was formed develop these strong regulatory requirements and has been responsible for evaluating the extent of potentially combustible cladding on government and privately-owned buildings in Queensland. Using a risk-based management approach, the Safer Buildings website was developed as a self-assessment tool to help private building owners identify any buildings that could be at risk of having potentially dangerous products installed. Included in this process is a requirement for owners to engage building certifiers and other building industry professionals at certain points, should their building be identified as potentially having combustible cladding. The taskforce has also taken on the role of skilling up building certifiers and building industry professionals through providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses to encourage industry best practice and specialist knowledge. Continuing professional development course This two-day CPD course has been developed to provide building certifiers and other industry professionals with the specialist knowledge to understand the key principles regarding building fire safety strategy, façade design and the interactions between a façade and the building in the event of a fire involving the external wall of a building. In addition, the course will give practitioners a full understanding of the application of the National Construction Code (NCC) and Queensland Building Regulation 2006 cladding requirements.
