The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards seek to capture the imaginations of school students across Australia, inspiring them to express their thoughts and feelings through the medium of poetry in their pursuit of literary excellence. The standard of entries year after year is consistently high, winning poems never cease to impress the judges.
The Competition opens on the first day of March and ends on the last day of June each year.
Behind the scenes the committee initiates, manages and completes other projects and focuses on new ways to expand, promote and highlight the poetry contest and their goal remains the same – to increase the number of schools entering each year and to find schools in more and more remote localities.
