SAVE THE DATES!

The 16th Biennial Filipino American National Historical Conference returns to New York in 2016!

This year's conference theme is "A Pinay/Pinoy State of Mind: Building with Our Roots." FANHS- Metro New York chose this theme to focus on our history while building our future legacies.

Our conference will feature all the traditional components of previous FANHS Conferences:
* A Tour of the City
* Phenomenal Keynote Speakers
* Plenary Sessions and Workshops
* FANHS Town Hall Meeting
* Filipino American Authors Reception
* Banquet/ Gala with Dancing, Silent Auction, and More

Our newest components that we will be adding this year, to add our New York City flare include:
* A Fashion Show with local, established Filipino American designers
* A Filipino American Film Festival featuring contemporary and fan favorite films from the past.

The majorify of the Conference will be held at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (located in central Manhattan). Hotel blocks have been reserved for three hotels in Midtown Manhattan (just blocks from the conference location). And our banquet/gala will be held on the Hornblower Infinity - a cruise boat that will tour the Hudson River, with up close views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge, the World Trade Center, and more!

Message from Dr. Flor: I distributed a card with the web address for my poetry chapbook "Alaskero Memories". There was a much interest in my book but I discovered after returning to Seattle, the website hadn't gone live. Carayan Press in San Francisco called last night and told me it was just activated. Could an email be sent to conference attendees telling them the webpage www.alaskero.carayanpress.com is active and books can be ordered. This would be much appreciated. Salamat po, Robert Francis Flor, PhD

a suggestion for those of you who cannot get/afford Broadway show tickets Friday evening 6/24 6pm-11pm, The High Line Park can be a memorable cheap thrill worth your while, for a stroll above Manhattan streets from 34th St to just south of 12th St and back if you so wish...

Does anyone who is attending FANHS have a copy of the PBS documentary IN OUR IMAGE, the film documentary based on the Stanley Karnow book? If yes, any chance you can bring it with you to FANHS so I can borrow it? I have tried to buy it on the PBS website, on Amazon & Alibris, and currently have my campus librarians looking on Inter Library Loan, but so far, no joy. It occurred to me that y'all are a good resource. If anyone can help me with this, maraming salamat! If not, thanks anyway! See you soon!

For those in NY and some of us attending the FANHS Conference in NY in June. Seems like an interesting exhibition to see FILIPINO ART through the hearts, heads and hands of children. ******************** Inspired by Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms is part of a series of exhibitions that presents the work of New York City students created in response to the great artistic traditions of Asia. This year the exhibition presents student artwork inspired by the Asia Society fall 2015 exhibition Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms. By displaying these fresh interpretations of Asian arts, we hope to encourage other young visitors to exercise their creativity. Organized by Asia Society Museum in collaboration with Studio in a School. 17 May 2016 - 7 August 2016
