Our Financial Capability Coaching training offers a range of practical coaching tools to:

  • Support your own money wellness
  • Be confident about having meaningful and productive money conversations with the people and communities you work with

This training has been developed and trialled by Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand over two years. It is based on our research and evidence-based outcomes in supporting women to create and sustain a productive relationship with money. It is supported by our approach and findings in our Firmer Foundations® program.

Financial Capability Coaching

We define financial capability coaching as: “…a process by which people determine their financial goals and the pathways and tools they need to achieve these goals. Coaching recognises that people are experts on themselves, their lives and the outcomes they are seeking. Through the coaching process, people maintain ownership of their goals to create sustainable change and greater self-determination.”

Training background and rationale

This training provides both personal and professional development.

  • Personal development: the course will support you to understand your own relationship with money and how to set and reach financial goals as an essential building block to money wellness
  • Professional development: People who participate in our services commonly face financial challenges: in particular, women who have experienced economic abuse or family violence. This course will provide you with confidence and skills to hold strengths-based money conversations with women as a way of increasing their money wellness and confidence, and decreasing their vulnerability to economic abuse or family violence.

Training delivery

Training is delivered through two interactive modules, over 2.5 days. Participants can elect to do Module One only if they wish. Both modules are recommended for people working intensively with women and their families who are experiencing financial stress and disadvantage.

Cost: The program is completely free
