Come along for a free guided tour of Urrbrae House, built in 1891 and the first home in South Australia lit by electricity.  Hear about the life and times of pastoralist and benefactor Peter Waite (1834-1922), his wife Matilda (1836-1922) and their family. The tour takes about 75 minutes. Then enjoy the gardens and adjacent Waite Arboretum at your leisure.  Please note that the tour starts promptly at 2pm and unfortunately late-comers cannot be admitted.  As numbers are limited for these tours, please remember to cancel your Eventbrite booking if you find that you are unable to attend a tour that you have booked. The first Sunday of the month free tours from February to November are provided by University of Adelaide staff and volunteers for individuals and small groups. Large group (15 people or more) guided tours of Urrbrae House can be arranged for other times and must be booked in advance with the Urrbrae House Co-ordinator. Charges apply for large group tours.  Please contact the Urrbrae House Co-ordinator (Monday-Wednesday) on ph. 83137497 for more information.  Urrbrae House is located on the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide at Urrbrae. Free parking is available in the Urrbrae House carpark on Walter Young Avenue, Urrbrae.Due to the original construction of Urrbrae House as a family home, visitors using wheelchairs and other mobility devices such as walkers can access the top floor of the building only. This includes the following rooms: Main Hall, Drawing Room, Arboretum Exhibition Room, Dining Room, Peter Waite Exhibition Room, Servery and Butler’s Pantry.For those using wheelchairs and other mobility devices access to Urrbrae House is via the eastern glass door of the house. Accessible parking is available at the rear of Urrbrae House, enter the Waite Campus, off Gate 3 from Waite Road, Urrbrae.
