A prosperous new #RatYear to All. Our calendar has not yet ticked the new year but we will soon be celebrating New Metal Rat Year. The rat is the first sign of our traditional 12 year cycle in our Buddhist Astrology and for this reason, 2020 is very special. New beginnings and renewals and potentially a very prosperous and goal-achieving year for all of us.
1. Let us all come together at Drukpa Perth Centre (11 Knight Avenune, Yokine) to celebrate this new beginning of the decade and the 12-Year cycle of the Buddhist calendar. #GyalwaDokhampa Rinpoche is offering #breakfast & #Tokha to all the attendees. We will also have some #cultural programmes to celebrate the day.
2. In conjunction,#GyalwaDokhampa Rinpoche will be presiding over #GuruDakpo Puja or Guru VajraKilaya from 7 am in the morning, a special Himalayan Vajrayana tradition practice performed to benefit our physical and emotional well-being, and to free 2020 from all the harmful spirits affecting our day to day activities in Australia.
We would like to welcome all individuals, families and devotees to be part of this puja and let ourselves free from the negative spirits for the rest of 2020.
3. Lastly, Drukpa Perth members & interested volunteers are planning to #give suitable items (e.g., clothes, shoes, etc.) to one or more #homeless shelters as a part of our #LosarGoodwillService. Interested donars are requested to contact our Coordinators

-----------------Guru Dakpo Puja explained ------------------------------
Vajra Kilaya also known as Guru Drakpo Kilaya in is the yidam deity who embodies the enlightened activity of all the buddhas. The Vajra Kilaya deity is the primary meditational deity of Guru Padmasambhava associated with the Vajrayana tradition. The practice of Vajra Kilaya is said to be the most powerful for removing obstacles, destroying the forces of harmful spirits such as the Gyalpo and Gongpo among the eight types of spirits.
Going back to the times of Guru Padmasambhava when the Samye monastery in Tibet was being built, Guru was subduing all the eight forms of negative spirits. When Guru was in meditation subjugating the negative spirits, the naga (lue) somehow tricked King Trisong Detsen into asking Guru to release the nagas from the subjugation and in return promising to give all the timber that would be required for the construction of the monastery. Availability of timber becoming a concern for the King, he immediately agreed to the naga. Not being able to refuse to the king’s request, Guru had to agree to release the nagas. Guru told King Trisong Detsen that although he wanted to make sure that future generations will not have any sort of trouble by negative spirits, the king’s request leaves him no choice but to release the nagas. So, Guru Rimpoche slightly opened the drupkong where the subjugation was being done. And two kinds of black smoke came out of the drupkong which is said to be the naga and gyalpo. Therefore, it is said that while the other negative spirits do not have much power, the gyalpo and the nagas are very powerful. It is said that diseases such as leprosy are caused by nagas. Similarly, gyalpos cause instability of the minds of people causing laziness and discomfort during practices and emotional conflicts between loved ones.
Now coming to the Kilaya practice and its connection to the Drukpa lineage, the practice started from Kunkhyen Pema Karpo, the fourth Gyalwang Drukpa. One day, Kunkhyen Pema Karpo saw two rakshas who said to have come from Lhonup Simpei yul (South West, the place of the Rakshas) and told him that they were sent by Guru Padmasambhava with the message warning him of possible obstacles caused by gyalpo and gongpo that year. To overcome these obstacles, Kunkhyen Pema Karpo was advised to practice Drakpo Kilaya. It is said that Guru Drakpo himself appeared in the mind of Kunkhyen Pema Karpo. This is said to be one of the eight miracle signs manifested by Kunkhyen Pema Karpo. This lineage came to be known as dhanang, namely the lineage of pure vision. Therefore, this practice is an important practice for the Drukpa lineage.
