Haus Musik ft. Saray Iluminado Femme Trio

As part of the Refuge Festival we are both thrilled and delighted to be bringing back an old favourite to The Motley Bauhaus… Haus Musik. Intimately curated performances with a live Q&A showcasing the exceptional and diverse musical artistry of Naarm(Melbourne).
This edition of Haus Musik, specially curated as part of the Refuge Festival will give us a chance to hear from some of the more recent additions to our every growing family as we continue to showcase some of the unique voices that contribute to Melbourne’s live music scene.
Members of SARAY Iluminado explore new interpretations of Sevdah from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Jewish Sephardic music from the Balkans. Saray Iluminado was formed in 2013 and has progressed swiftly to become one of Melbourne's most original world music ensembles, performing at festivals and venues including the Caravan Club, Open Studio, Cygnet Folk Festival and the Bosnian Embassy in Canberra.
In 2018 a subgroup called SARAY Iluminado Femme was also formed, an all female trio that performed at a few women's festivals and events. In 2019. "The Femmes" made their European debut in Italy, at Sicilian festivals "LA SCIALLA" in Palermo and "ALKANTARA" in Pisano, near Mount Etna. Both the trio and the full five-piece band are led by the Bosnian-Australian artist, Nela Trifkovic, who came to Australia as a refugee during the Yugoslav war in the 90s.

The live Q and A offers audiences and unique opportunity to get to know some of these artists a little better. It’s not just about hearing the music but hearing from the artists behind the music, and what goes into making their sound.
HAUS MUSIK is a unique Naarm-based series taking place in our beautiful little Motley Theatre Space. But spaces are strictly limited so be sure to book! Doors at 7 with music starting at 8.
