Disclaimer: The map in Eventbrite is indicative only and may not accurately reflect the location of the event.

Set Entry Times

The tickets will allow for arrival over a specified half-hourly block. Please arrive at the port prior to your entry time to allow time to pass through security.

The entry windows begin at 10:00am with last entries to the open day no later than 3:00pm at which time the entry gates will be closed. There is no specified exit time during the open day. However, visitors will be required to depart the venue by no later than 4:00pm.

Tickets

All tickets ordered will be emailed to the ticketholder and must either be printed out or displayed as an e-ticket using the free Eventbrite iOS/Android App for mobile devices.

For port security reasons, tickets must display the name of at least one member (the ticketholder) of the group attending the event. The ticketholder's name must match the name on their photo identification when presented to security staff at the gate. Visitors, particularly children without photo identification must be accompanied by the ticketholder who can vouch for their identity. Every person attending, regardless of age, must have a ticket. This includes children of any age.

There is no waitlist for this event.

Transport and Parking

There is limited event parking nearby so the use of public transport is strongly recommended. No vehicles will be given access to the wharf.

Bag Checks

100% bag checks (handbags and small backpacks only) and wand searches will be conducted in accordance with standard procedures for any public event. This is to ensure that no prohibited items are brought aboard. Prohibited items include weapons, glass and alcohol.

Cameras

Photography is permitted aboard the ship. All camera equipment must be carried by hand and not carried in a bag. Tripods are not permitted. Members of the ship's crew may ask you to refrain from taking photographs in certain areas.

Prams and Children

It is recommended that children under the age of five not be brought aboard the ship. This is due to hazards associated with ladders throughout the ship.

Prams are not permitted aboard the ship, however, space will be available for the parking of prams on the wharf.

Please do not leave any valuable items with parked prams.

Toilets

Portable toilet facilities will be available on the wharf.

Ship Access

Visitors should have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility as they may be required to climb ladders and/or stairs to access areas of the ship.

Unfortunately, due to warship design, wheelchair or other mobility access is not possible.

Footwear and Clothing

All visitors are required to wear a comfortable pair of enclosed, flat-soled shoes. High heels, thongs and sandals are not permitted as there are trip hazards aboard the ship. For safety and comfort, visitors are advised to wear shorts/slacks rather than skirts/dresses.

Food and Beverages

Water and other refreshments will be available within the port area during the open day. Visitors are advised to eat and hydrate before stepping aboard. Please do not consume any food on the ship.

Merchandise

The ship’s canteen will have HMAS Hobart-themed items for sale. Please note that all sales are cash only.

Displays and Activities

Defence Force Recruiting tent will be onsite.

Note: Ship availability is subject to operational requirements and may change without notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there ID requirements to enter the event?

Yes. All ticket holders are to present photo identification upon entry to the open day.

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

No. While there is no age limit to this event, it is recommended that accompanied children be five years or older. This is due to hazards associated with ladders throughout the ship.

My name is displayed on all the tickets that I ordered. Is this correct?

Yes. The ticketholder's name is usually displayed on all tickets for a group ticket order. The ticketholder must attend the event in company with the other visitors and present their photo identification at the gate along with the tickets.

Is my ticket transferrable?

For security reasons, tickets can not be used by another person if the ticketholder is unable to attend as the name on the ticket must match with the ticketholder's photo identification. However, on the Friday prior to the event, all tickets in a single order may be transferred to another ticketholder. Please use the 'Contact the organiser' email link shown in your ticket email to advise the first name, surname and email of the new ticketholder. All tickets in a single order must be transferred.

Note: Ticketholder transfer requests can be processed up to 4pm (AEDT) on the Friday prior to the event. Unfortunately, transfers can not be processed after this time.

Can I sell my tickets?

No. This is a free event and the sale of (scalping) of tickets is an offence. If you are unable to attend the open day please cancel your tickets. People found to be soliciting the sale of free open day tickets will have their tickets cancelled without notice. People who purchase free tickets may be refused entry as the ticketholder name will not match their photo identification.

I am attending the event but also ordering tickets for a friend. Should I order the tickets together or separately?

Unless you are planning on meeting up and entering the event together, it is recommended that tickets be ordered separately. That way if plans change, both parties may enter the event separately if necessary or tickets easily transferred or cancelled.

How do I cancel my tickets if I am unable to attend?

Due to the high level of public interest in obtaining tickets to attend the open day, if you and your guests are unable to attend the open day please log into your Eventbrite account (the account you created to order the tickets) and cancel your ticket order. This will make your tickets available to someone else.

About HMAS Hobart

HMAS Hobart (III) is the first of three ships of the Hobart class guided missile destroyers (DDG). The keel of Hobart was laid down on 6 September 2012 and the ship was launched on 23 May 2015. HMAS Hobart was commissioned at Fleet Base East on 23 September 2017. Hobart is the third ship in the history of the Royal Australian Navy to carry the name of the capital city of Tasmania.

Hobart is based on the Navantia designed F100 frigate and is coupled it with the Aegis Combat System. Hobart was constructed in Australia by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance.

Hobart provides air defence for accompanying ships in addition to land forces and infrastructure in coastal areas, and for self-protection against missiles and aircraft. The Aegis Combat System incorporating the state-of-the-art phased array radar, AN/SPY 1D(V), in combination with the SM-2 missile, provides the Navy with an advanced air defence system capable of engaging enemy aircraft and missiles at ranges in excess of 150km.

Hobart's surface warfare function includes long range anti-ship missiles and a naval gun capable of firing extended range munitions in support of land forces. Hobart can also conduct undersea warfare and is equipped with modern sonar systems, decoys, surface-launched torpedoes and an array of effective close-in defensive weapons.

Hobart can also deploy a MH-60R Seahawk helicopter for surveillance and response to support ship boardings along with key warfare areas of anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare.

These capabilities ensure that the Hobart class guided missile destroyers have the layered defensive and offensive capability required to counter conventional and asymmetric threats.
