NOTICE

Hello community, in these changing times we have opted to offer this Gathering via Zoom! We hope you can join us (and that the technology goddesses will be smiling on us as we learn this new platform). Please register through EventBrite so that you can receive the meeting link. We are asking participants for a pay-what-you-can donation as is custom with our in-person Gatherings (recommended $10). This will help us to continue to offer these sessions and to bring you outstanding presenters. Many many thanks!

Please send etransfers to Vicdeathcaregathering@gmail.com

The Zoom Meeting link will be send to registrants the week before the Gathering.

If you haven't used Zoom before, here is a link to help you set it up and then test that it’s working for you.

The Gathering: Rituals for End of Life

Rituals for end-of-life can help ground us in the present, attune us to the people and the energies that surround us, honour our lives and our grief, and usher us in to the unknown. How do we create rituals that are menaignful for our circumstances? And what can we learn about death and grief rituals from around the world while respecting ownership?

Join us to explore the role of end-of-life rituals with Nicole Kilburn, an archaeologist and instructor at Camosun College where she teaches the popular 'Anthropology of Death' class. With her students, Nicole showcased Victorian-era mourning rituals in Preparing for a Victorian Funeral and facilitated a mock Egyptian funeral in Pathway to the Afterlife with the Royal BC Museum. Nicole will share her research on cross-cultural end-of-life rituals and the evolving role of end-of-life rituals in society.

ABOUT THE VHDC GATHERINGS

The Holistic Death Care Gathering is a series of community events bringing folks together who are interested in alternative approaches to death, dying and grief. The goal of these Gatherings is to nurture a community of care and to provide a platform to share knowledge, resources and learning opportunities. Different members will facilitate each Gathering as we embody circle leadership values.

Please bring any cards, flyers and information about your own offerings/services for the community network table.
