INTRODUCTION TO BOTANICAL PAINTING ON VELLUM with Sarah Gould

THE COURSE
Paint a small jewel-like painting of a botanical or natural subject in watercolour on calfskin vellum at this two-day workshop with expert vellum painter, Sarah Gould. 

Day one of the workshop will outline the process of vellum production and describe the different qualities available. This will be followed by demonstrations of how to prepare the vellum for painting and how to get started – preparation, paints, brushes, etc. Day two will be spent working on a painting of a small natural or botanical subject, putting into practice techniques learnt on day one. The day will finish with a demonstration of mounting and conservation of finished work. Sarah will bring some suitable subjects but if there is anything (small) that you would like to paint please bring it with you.

TUTOR
Sarah Gould qualified as a landscape architect in 1979 and later studied Botanical Illustration with Anne-Marie Evans. She works almost exclusively on calfskin vellum and teaches at the Chelsea School of Botanical Art in London. She has been awarded two silver-gilt medals by the RHS and has exhibited in the USA, at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery at Kew and has work in permanent collections both here and abroad. Sarah’s work is included in the Highgrove Florilegium and the newly created Transylvanian Florilegium.
