Veitch Lister Consulting (VLC) will present on some of the ways they have been helping local, state and federal government bodies around Australia plan for the future. The workshop topics will be wide-ranging and aims to be interactive and educational.

Come and learn about the following areas:

• Planwisely cloud-based mapping platform – a live demonstration of the platform

• Big data for local area planning – exploring the use of mobile phone location data to support a variety of use cases (inc. case studies)

• Tools and methods for measuring accessibility – we will talk about accessibility modelling and how it can uncover areas of poor access to parks, schools, open space, community centres etc.

• Forecasting for land use and transport planning – understanding the forecasting tools available and the importance of spatial resolution in local area planning.

About Planwisely

Planwisely is a new cloud-based mapping platform designed to help transport planners, urban planners, community services planners, strategic and statutory planners produce more informed outcomes for their cities and communities. Developed by VLC, the platform is used by local, state and federal governments around Australia to help gain access to hundreds of spatial datasets as well as tools to analyse the built environment.

The platform includes the following features: 

• Interactive web-based mapping platform – no need for any software or GIS skills

• 3D buildings and visualisations 

• Hundreds of pre-loaded spatial datasets  

• Catchment Analysis - drop a pin anywhere in the map to access walk, public transport or car catchments with demographic analysis 

• Demographics filtering 

• Origin-destination module to understand where people travel from/to

• Ability to add your own datasets to the map 

• Access to Third-party spatial data

• Print maps for reports and presentations 

• Satellite imagery

About the presenters

Daniel Veryard | State Director (Western Australia)

Daniel leads VLC’s WA operations in the areas of travel demand forecasting, data analytics, economic appraisal and transport policy and planning. He is a multi-disciplinary transport professional with 15 years’ experience in Australia and internationally.

Nick Veitch | Managing Director

Nick is the Managing Director of VLC, a boutique consultancy specialising in transport planning, modelling, economics & spatial analytics. He has broad experience in both management and technical roles, including transport modelling, web-based platform development, and served as VLC’s Chief Operating Officer for four years.
