Ken Wyatt grew up a skinny ankled child from Bunbury who in his own words was so poor he was forced to eat “meat that you’d give to the dogs it was so cheap”. Yet from this childhood he rose to become the first Aboriginal person to be elected to the Australian House of Representatives. He is now the nation’s first Aboriginal Minister for Indigenous Australians and finds himself front and centre in the mission to empower Aboriginal Australians. Continuing work to Close the Gap, establishing an Indigenous voice and a referendum on constitutional recognition of Aboriginal Australians are among the most challenging policies being pursued by the Morrison Government.
