Training for Leaders of Mental Health Lived Experience Workforce

LEt's Talk About...Supporting wellbeing and resilience

The MHCSA, with support from the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, is pleased to offer free training for people who directly supervise mental health Lived Experience/Peer Workers - or who are working towards a role in which they will. We welcome leaders from both the NGO and Government mental health sectors.

This training is non-accredited and based on needs identified by Managers and Leaders through the 2015 LEWP Training Needs Analysis, as part of the CALHN Evaluation of the Lived Experience Workforce (2014) and the SA Health Lived Experience Workforce Project Management Consultation (2012). All training sessions for Leaders of Lived Experience Workforce have been co-produced by Lived Experience Workers and Leaders from both sectors.

Lived Experience Workers are employed for the knowledge they have gained through mental illness and recovery AND their skills in applying this knowledge to work practice. Part of the lived experience skill set, and a key responsibility of Lived Experience Workers, is self-management of our wellbeing.

Workplace mental health is a rapidly growing area and there are a number of training programs on offer to support this. But the work and conversation shouldn't end when the trainers leave the building.

In this session, we will focus on the strengths and skills Lived Experience Workers have in managing wellbeing, and provide opportunity for leaders to think about ways this expertise could be helpful in supporting resilience and self-management across the workplace.
