Lecture: Urban Choreography of Dubrovnik
Guest lecturers Sandra Uskokovic and Boris Bakal address the challenges of the city of Dubrovnik.
Recent redistribution of property, capital investment, new market economy, and tremendous tourism flows buoyed up by a wave of cultural and social transformation in UNESCO city of Dubrovnik that have led to its museumification and effacement of urban and collective memory. What we are witnessing in urban heritage today can be described as a city laboratory for experimentation, choreographed in silent complicity with agendas of powerful, while urban image construction is entangled in government strategies, leading to colonization of public dissent and silencing of conflict in post-socialist conditions.
Shadow Casters' “Father Courage” is performative urban journey of Dubrovnik driven by a desire to awaken and activate its audience in relation to its everyday, occupied urban reality. The critical performance of memory in “Father Courage” is making the urban past present in ways that can be experienced, generating a knowledge of the relationship between past and present that is oftentimes troubling, other times comforting.
The lecture is held in english language and it is open to all public free of charge.
