As patient choices increase, health professionals will be exposed to more complex conversations around end of life, death and dying. To facilitate effective and efficient conversations, clinicians need to be aware of new legal considerations and processes and have the communication skills to support patients in their decisions.

A mix of didactic, interactive and experiential learning will cover the following learning objectives:
• Know the context of voluntary assisted dying and advance care directives from both the clinician and patient's perspective
• Understand the new legislation and specific legal requirements pertaining to your role
• Understand the professional responsibilities and processes to support a person’s choices
• Identify and apply clinical consultation skills to support end of life conversations in professional practice

This workshop will provide the foundation for health professionals to understand the legislation changes and specific clinical consultation skills required for end-of-life care. Content will be relevant and informative for all health practitioners, however this session will not focus on ethical considerations.

This project is a collaboration between Deakin's School of Law and Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare.

Ticket sales end on 11 December. Register now to secure your place.
