A march from Caltech by City Hall to Memorial Park for those who support science and the science community. This is a satellite March to the ones in DC, Los Angeles, and all over the world.

8:00-8:30am: Congregate at Beckman Lawn (sign making materials and light food will be provided; Free t-shirts for the first 100 people!)
8:30-8:45am: Welcome remarks with speakers
8:45-10:00 am: March to Memorial Park
10:00-10:15am: Closing remarks with speakers
10:00-11:30am: Outreach Fair with science booths for adults and kids

(Please feel free to join us for all or part of the event - many people will be boarding the metro and heading to Pershing Square for the Los Angeles March for Science, and many people will be staying local for our Outreach Fair).

We want this march to be inclusive of all: more information about accomodations for people with mobility impairments is posted in the discussion section and feel free to reach out to us with any specific issues.

This event is being organized by Caltech postdoctoral researchers, Caltech graduate students, and Caltech undergraduate students. It is sponsored by the Caltech Postdoctoral Association, the Associated Students of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech undergraduate student government), and the Caltech Graduate Student Council.

After the event: if you've parked at Caltech and need to make your way back, there are a number of public transportation options for you: ARTS Bus 10 ($0.75): Every 17 minutes from Colorado and Raymond (two-ish blocks south of the park) to Del Mar and Wilson. 267/264 ($1.75): Leaves 10:55am and 11:56am from Walnut/Raymond to Del Mar/Wilson There are also numerous buses that go east on Colorado Blvd (from Colorado/Raymond to Colorado/Catalina or Wilson); which will take you close, but not right to Caltech. Best of luck with the transport!

Logistics – Pasadena Marchers Please Read We will be marching on sidewalks only – we do not have permits to block streets. Please respect all traffic signs and laws. Because we will be marching on the sidewalks, please leave your bikes and skateboards at home. Let’s have strollers and wheelchairs be the only wheeled conveyances, tomorrow. Service animals are welcome (of course!), and dogs on leashes are permitted, but we do caution that it may be very crowded. It is your responsibility to control your pets – if there is any chance of an issue, please remove them from the premises ASAP. There is free parking at Caltech (see picture below). Parking at Memorial Park will be street parking or one of the paid parking structures in Old Town Pasadena. We will be opening up a building at Caltech so Marchers can use the first floor restrooms and there are outdoor restrooms at Memorial Park. It’s going to be a hot day – please make sure you have adequate water supplies to stay hydrated on the march. Don’t forget your hats and sunscreen, too! Wear comfortable shoes and pack light (large backpacks are discouraged). For your signs: the city requests you not use anything that can become a weapon. That means no wooden or metal sticks or flagpoles. You may use cardboard posts to hold your sign, but most people find it fine to carry them with both hands or to string them around their necks. Please also keep in mind that this is a non-partisan family friendly event. We hope your signs, slogans, and artwork will reflect that. Special note for those with physical limitations: If you are unable to march we encourage you to join us either at Caltech or Memorial Park. (There is some public transportation that will take you from Caltech to Memorial Park, though the times are offset from our March). Also remember that it is Earth Day tomorrow – try to make sure you pick up after yourself and your family/group. Don’t forget to take your signs back home with you.

People taking metro light-rail in or out of town for the Marches may want to get and fill their TAP cards tonight so they can move right onto the trains tomorrow instead of waiting in lines.

I am marching for science tomorrow because I want my children, students and future grand children to inherit a planet that embraces knowledge and has maintained natural resources for all to live in relative comfort. I am marching for science because I want them to learn how to practice skepticism but embrace awe. I want the values of knowledge to be celebrated and the collective good to be respected and preserved. I am marching for the future.

Hi Marchers and Potential Marchers - it's T minus 1 week until the Pasadena March for Science! This week we will be highlighting examples of how science is connected with our local community. For example, did you know that there have been 23 NASA Astronauts who were born in California, including one who was born right here in Pasadena: Alan G. Pointexter, who flew on the space shuttle twice, spent more than 669 hours in space and served as Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) for several missions.
