Please join us for a masterclass and Q&A session featuring Professor Morag McDermont (University of Bristol). Morag will share insights and advice on assembling and working effectively in large research teams combining academic and non-academic participants. This will draw upon her experience as Principal Investigator on a £2.3 million+ ESRC (Economic & Social Research Council) Large Grant which funded the Productive Margins programme: a collaboration between seven community organisations and the universities of Bristol and Cardiff. Spanning six quite diverse areas of regulatory activity (from food habits to loneliness in older people), this programme aimed to answer the research question: How can we design regulatory regimes that begin from the capabilities of communities at the margins, finding ways of powerfully supporting the knowledge and passions of citizens? This will be invaluable for those interested in potentially developing ARC Linkage projects or other research collaborations with diverse non-academic stakeholders, especially with marginalized communities.
