Course Fee: $295 CDN per person + HST or BYOD (bring your own device): $245 CDN person + HST

Location: Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada  | Our classroom courses are offered at the Toronto Eaton Centre or at the Toronto Star Building (some Avantix Learning courses may be held at an alternate downtown Toronto location). Location will be confirmed when you register.

During this instructor-led Microsoft Access training coursebeginners will learn basic skills to work effectively with Microsoft Access databases. Students will learn to work with this powerful relational database program to create and edit Microsoft Access databases with tables, queries, forms and reports. Tables will be designed with various types of fields and properties including fields with drop-down menus and then used in tables and forms. Students will generate select, delete and update queries to extract data and will also create queries with calculated fields. Simple relationships between tables will also be created. Students will also create and format basic forms and reports. Throughout the course, the instructor will include numerous tips, tricks and shortcuts. Each student will also receive a full course manual.

Working in the Microsoft Access Environment

  • Working with the Ribbon and the Quick Access Toolbar
  • Creating the four basic objects – tables, queries, forms and reports
  • Working with the Navigation pane
  • Creating and saving a new database

Designing Tables

  • Designing tables with different field types including text, number, date and hyperlink
  • Specifying properties for fields
  • Creating drop-down menus in fields
  • Entering and editing records in datasheet view
  • Saving a table
  • Navigating between Design and Datasheet views

Designing Data Entry Forms

  • Creating a simple form for user entry
  • Using Form view and Design view
  • Formatting a form in Design view
  • Understanding bound and unbound controls
  • Setting properties
  • Working with control layouts and removing controls from control layouts
  • Saving a form

Setting up a Simple Relationship

  • Setting up a relationship between tables based on a key field
  • Using referential integrity
  • Extracting information from related tables in forms, reports and queries

Creating Select Queries to Extract Records

  • Creating select queries using various wildcards and operators to extract information
  • Running a query
  • Saving a query

Creating Simple Calculations in Queries

  • Creating a query with calculated fields

Designing Reports

  • Creating and running a simple report
  • Grouping data in a report through the wizard
  • Using different views with reports
  • Formatting a report
