This workshop will help teachers wanting to learn how to use Minecraft: Education Edition in their classroom to help students enter the 2020 Western Sydney International Airport competition. This comprehensive one-day course is perfect for anyone ready to start using Minecraft: EE in their classroom.

Teachers will learn how to play the game, how to create learning experiences for the game, and how students can create walkthrough videos to showcase their work inside the game.

At the end of the day, participants will leave feeling comfortable and knowledgeable in the basic skills necessary to be up and running successfully using Minecraft: Education Edition in their classroom.

This workshop will be delivered by Megan Townes, a Microsoft Learning Delivery Specialist, and Brett Kent, a NSW DoE STEM.T4L Community Leader.

AGENDA:

8:30am - Connecting and welcome

9:00am - The Minecraft Educator Community

9:15am - Playing the game

10:45am - Camera and Portfolio

11:30am - Multiplayer

12:00 noon - Lunch

1:00pm - Settings, Logistics and Backing Up Worlds

1:45pm - Creating and editing walkthrough videos

2:45pm - Conclusion and Further Learning and Resources

PLEASE NOTE THAT CATERING IS NOT PROVIDE AT THIS EVENT. There will be a long lunch break where teachers can access food outlets nearby.

DEVICE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Please bring a mouse if you are using a PC or Mac
  • Please download Minecraft:// Education Edition onto your device
  • Please bring your own device. This can be a Windows, Mac or iOS device. Note that MINECRAFT DOES NOT RUN ON CHROMEBOOKS.
  • NSW DoE T4L devices: Please ensure you have the latest version of Windows installed (1809) if you are using a T4L device - please see your computer coordinator if you aren't sure. Please install Minecraft: Education Edition onto your device prior to the workshop.
  • Personal devices or devices from other sectors: Use an up-to-date Windows 10 or MacOS device or iPad with Minecraft: Education Edition installed. 

NESA ACCREDITATION:

Completing the Minecraft Teacher Training - 2020 Western Sydney International Airport workshop will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 2.6.2 and 3.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
