The Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies Department has consistently scored very high on National Student Survey (NSS) satisfaction rates and its members of staff have published widely in the fields of Arabic language, translation, literature, politics, history and Islamic studies. Some of the most widely-used textbooks in Arabic language have been produced in-house by colleagues, including Dr. Lahlali’s Advanced Media Arabic and How to Write in Arabic, as well as Prof. Dickins’s Thinking Arabic Translation and Standard Arabic: An Advanced Course. On their Year Abroad, students will be taught in Leeds-only classes and a Leeds-designed curriculum. Our current Year Abroad destinations include Egypt and Morocco * We teach language in context, allowing you to not only immerse yourself in Arabic language but learn more about the region’s rich and diverse culture, history, politics and religions.
