Griffith University Tourism Confucius Institute

This is the official Facebook for the Griffith University Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI). The Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI) at Griffith University in Queensland Australia was established on April 9 2011 under an agreement between Griffith University in Australia and the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HanBan) in China, and in partnership with the China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou, China. The TCI is the first and only Confucius Institute with an emphasis on tourism. In addition to promoting the learning of Chinese language and culture at Griffith University and in the broader community, the Tourism Confucius Institute seeks to build and deepen links and collaborative opportunities with China in the field of tourism. Griffith University is acknowledged internationally as a leader in the development of tourism education and research. The achievements in tourism education and research at Griffith University have been made possible through a global collaborative network with numerous collaborators, including a large number of institutions in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The TCI held an Official Launching Ceremony on Nov.16, 2012 with both Presidents of Griffith University and China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), HanBan, Government ministry representatives, VIPs, university and local community guests. At the ceremony we launched a series of themed activities and a Chinese Cultural Experience Centre to introduce Chinese culture to the local communities. The ceremony included a display with folk customs, especially those in the Xuzhou region such as paper-cuttings, kites, sachets, children’s paintings, terracotta replicas and rubbings of Han tablets; Suzhou embroidery, silk, Nantong printed cloth and Nanjing brocade. There were also classes about Chinese painting and calligraphy Chinese language using the theme, “Tourism, China and Australia”.
