While the regular on-site Branch activities are suspended due to the coronavirus situation, our Pilates Instructors, Sasha Baggaley and Anna Noonan are creating short exercise videos to help keep people moving and active – they are for everyone not just regular class participants. If equipment is needed, this is mentioned at the start of each video, so you can pause it and get set up, but in general not much equipment is required and anything that is, should be available in your home.

As the Branch is supporting facilitators’ online work, you may consider making a donation to the Branch via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/edinburghparkinsons.

We have two regular Friday sessions with Neuro-Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor Sasha Baggaley at Morningside Parish Church, 2 Cluny Gardens, Edinburgh. Session 1: 10.00--11.00am and Session 2: 12 - 1pm.

The contribution towards class costs is £3 per session bookable in a block, the length of which varies from term to term but the total for any block is based on £3 per session.

Why is Pilates Recommended?

Pilates is about core stability. With regular attendance, as your core strength develops so will stability throughout your entire torso, which can help with some of the mobility and postural issues of Parkinson’s. It also works to promote flexibility and increased range of motion for the joints. By helping reduce the effort placed on the body during everyday activities it can also help lower fatigue levels.

The class begins seated then moves to mat work. Where necessary, exercises are adapted for the individual.
