Come and learn how to use a PODD communication book! This is a basic workshop teaching you how to use a PODD communication book as a tool to communicate with kids who have complex communication needs. Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) is a means of selecting and organising symbols so that people with complex communication needs and their communication partners can communicate more easily. PODD is an example of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Who should attend?: This workshop is beneficial for anyone who is a PODD communication book partner, such as (but not limited to): Parents Teachers Therapists Benefits of attending: You will learn: How a PODD works How to use a PODD in everyday situations Fun, practical ways to use a PODD as a tool for learning and developing communication To be more confident in using a PODD to communicate FAQS Do I have to bring my own PODD communication book? There will be a wide range of PODD books and several iPads with PODD app available to practice on during the workshop. You can bring your own PODD book or device with PODD app, but make sure the person who uses it has access to a suitable alternative communication method during that time. We use PODD on our tablet/iPad, not in book form, will this workshop still be relevant? The main focus of this workshop is for PODD communication books however the ideas learnt can be transferred across to using with a PODD app on tablet or iPad. Do I need a basic understanding of PODD to get the most out of this workshop? No prior knowledge is needed, just a desire to learn more about PODDs! I already use a PODD with my child but want to get better at it, will this workshop still be useful? Even if you already use a PODD with your child, this workshop is still useful to make sure you know all the tips for using PODDs and get a chance to practice. The workshop covers the background behind how a PODD book works, tips for how to use it correctly, videos of people using PODDs, and time to practice. Also, keep an eye out for our new ‘PODD Prac’ workshops – two hour sessions focused on practice using PODDs through a range of fun activities. Can I use my NDIA funds to pay for this workshop? Yes! If you would like to access your NDIA funds to pay for this session please do not book through this site. The venue is accessible by public transport (bus). There is on-site parking at Novita's Office. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? Yes Can I update my registration information? Yes. Registration information can be updated at any time.  If I can no longer attend, can I pass my ticket on to a colleague? Yes!
