Hey everyone!
We are ending Term 1 with a really exciting event we have been planning for a while. We all hope you will be able to join us, and our two panelists, Pr. Steven Kettell and Ms. Maryam Namazie to hear their views about the issue, as well as have a chance to ask some questions at the end.
The event will tackle the issue of Free Speech and Gender Equality in Religious as well as Secular countries / politics / governments. We will focus on Iran through the external speaker we are inviting, and we will have a broader view thanks to the Warwick Scholar invited too.
The first speaker invited is Ms. Maryam Namazie, who will be speaking about Iran and secularism. She will be speaking about her campaigns targeted at fighting Islamist extremists and patriarchal norms in Iran and in the UK.
Our second speaker is Pr. Steven Kettell, an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, in the department of Politics and International Studies. He is a specialist in the politics of secularism, non-religion and the role of religion in the public sphere.
This panel discussion will be chaired by Daniel Azaz, a Mentor of the The Public Speaking Society at the University of Warwick and a teacher and judge in the English-Speaking Union.
In order to join us, you will need to get a student at the University of Warwick and must get a free ticket as we will be checking on the door of the event. The link for tickets will be posted here shortly.
We would also like to give you the opportunity to ask some pre-arranged questions. If you would like to do so, please fill out the google docs form here:
If you have any question on the event or any concerns on the topic, please feel free to talk to us! Send us a message on our facebook page or an email to
See you there!
LOVE, your exec Xxx
