Pottery Wheel School Holiday Fun | 7-9 years
A fun school holiday class for kids to learn to use the pottery wheel! Practice centering the clay on the wheel so you can build it up to a pot or other vessel. This class is a fun way to learn the basics of wheel throwing. Don’t worry too much about making everything perfectly symmetrical – just enjoy the process while learning the basics. Due to the strength and height required to operate the wheel and mould the clay, our experience is that children should have already turned 7 years old.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL HOLIDAY POTTERY CLASSES
Students will not take home pots on the day. Students choose their 2 best pots to be fired in our kiln. Kiln fired pots will be ready for collection approximately 2 weeks after the holidays. This service is included in the class fee.
Students should bring and and wear:
Closed-toe shoes and clothes you are relaxed about getting clay on. Comfortable pants/trousers recommended as students sit close to the wheel as they throw.
An apron (due to OH&S we don’t supply aprons for ceramics during the holidays)
An old hand towel
The following is NOT included in the course fee
Bisque firing of more than 2 pots – if you want to bisque fire more than 2 pots there is a fee of $15 per extra pot payable on the day.
Colour glazing is not included. This an optional extra you can do AFTER bisque firing ($20 for 2 pots)
Learning to trim pots (this not offered during school holidays)

Other Frequently asked questions
Did you know you could stay all day?
Children enrolled in morning and afternoon sessions will be supervised through the 1 hour lunch break. Just pack lunch and extra snacks. The break may include a visit to Lambert Park Playground just around the corner at the end of Davies Street – so bring a hat and sunscreen.
There is NO additional fee for this supervision
My child is older/younger than the suggested age, can they do the class?
Our holiday classes are structured with age appropriate activities. If children are older than the listed age target they can do the class as long as they are aware there will be younger kids in the class and this does not worry them. However it is not appropriate for children much younger than the listed age to attend classes aimed at older students (eg a 6 year old enrolled in a class for 8-12s or a 9 year old in class for teens).
How many children are in each class?
We keep classes to 12 students to ensure maximum learning opportunity.
Are materials included in the workshop fee?
Yes, the fee for each school holiday class includes all materials and tuition.
If I cancel a booking can I get a refund?
Please read our school holiday cancellation and refund policy in our terms and conditions carefully. We do not offer refunds for cancellations
and a cancellation fee may be payable or you may forfeit the course fee, depending on when you cancel
