Preparing Your Manuscript for Publication

This weekend program in creative writing is designed for the advanced writer who is interested in publishing fiction. This class will be capped at 15 participants. Over the course of two days, participants will be encouraged to hone their voice and editing skills in a supportive and stimulating environment.
Participants must submit one piece of writing that is a work-in-progress to qualify for this course; the instructors will read this submission prior to the course and participants will polish this work for publication during the workshop. Guidelines will be given on how to write, edit and present a work so that it is more likely to be accepted by book publisher or an editor of a journal.
Sharon Bakar and Dipika Mukherjee have over five decades of combined editing experience and will address the following issues:
1) How to craft a beguiling opening paragraph
2) Techniques to make dialogues sing
3) What is at stake for the character(s)?
4) Understanding the arc of effective fiction
5) Let's Make a Scene
6) The truth is in the details
7) Editing for impact
8) Effective endings
(Plus anything else that arises from the manuscripts that participants send in)
Cost: RM1000 (payable on the day by cash or cheque made out to Word Works Sdn Bhd)
