About the Talk

Professor Narlı will talk about her latest research, which focuses on the daily life of Syrian refugees in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul, and their survival strategies and the types of risks they face. Professor Narlı will also address the trajectory of Syrian refugees’ journey from the war situation in Syria to Zeytinburnu in Istanbul, their living conditions, social networks, stress-coping strategies and their access to public services (education, health, etc.), as well as their integration and social inclusion in Turkey. Please note that this event will be in English with no translation into Turkish. 

Professor Nilufer Narlı holds a degree in Education with a major in Philosophy and minor in Sociology; and MSc in Humanities with a major in Logic, the Philosophy of Science and Philosophy from the Middle Eastern Technical University, Turkey. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a major in Political Sociology from the School of Comparative Social Sciences, University Sains Malaysia. Prof. Narlı is founding Chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Professor of  Political Sociology in the Department of Sociology at Bahçeşehir University. She was granted an Eisenhower Fellowship in 1993 (Single Nation Program). Prof. Narlı’s topics of interest in research and teaching include the following: political participation of  Muslim women; irregular migration in the Balkans and the living conditions of the Syrian migrants in Turkey;  EU Harmonization Reforms: military and good governance in Turkey.
