This is not your average public speaking course!
It is a specialist course for those who already have some speaking skills and want to hone their persuasive communication, craft a compelling message and make a difference in the world.
Suited to advocates, influencers and changemakers of all stripes, this participation driven course will challenge and extend your speaking skills, to help amplify your message.
Packed with advanced techniques and communication master-skills, this course also emphasises weekly speaking practice with individual coaching and feedback.
This course is a six week evening series, equivalent to three full days of training. It is held from 5.30pm-9.00pm on Wednesday evenings.
We communicate in many different ways and our actual content is only part of the story.
This workshop looks at how our voice, choice of words and body language all influence our message. We also look at the role of inclusive language in engaging or putting off others.
Audiences respond best to speakers who display passion and confidence, balanced with authenticity and humility. By contrast, dogma and judgement tend to be off-putting and turn people off our message. This workshop looks at how to achieve this balance and cultivate authentic credibility in our spoken communications.
It takes more than facts to shift someone elses thinking. Often we are more influenced by factors such as rapport, dissonance, and the emotional impact of an argument.
This week we examine a psychologically informed approach to influential speaking.
This component looks at why stories are so much more compelling than facts, and how you can put a human face on the message you are trying to share.
We will learn how to identify appropriate stories from the real world and use them to augment our message.
We explore how you can get inside your audiences heads and learn to see the argument from their viewpoint. From this angle, we can strengthen our message and communicate to engage.
This final week refines and reinforces the skills we have covered across the course. It also introduces some final tools and techniques to further enhance your speaking and call others to action.
While there are no formal prerequisites, it is expected that participants have some past speaking experience and are familiar with the basics of managing nerves, stance, projection and eye contact, along with how to develop content and structure a speech.
These basics will NOT be covered in this course, but those wishing to brush up on these things are invited to attend our one day course Introductory Public Speaking, prior to commencing this course.
