*Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, Quick Tip Tuesday has been postponed until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience.

On the first Tuesday of every month, pop in for a crash course on how you can improve your writing one small step at a time. Members and non-members welcome. Only $25 per session!

Course Dates and Topics:

April Quick Tip: Knowing Your Audience

Throughout your writing journey, you’ve likely been asked, “who is your target audience?” Whether you’re writing fiction or non-fiction, it is vital that you know who you are writing for. Having a clear understanding of your audience not only lays out the parameters of your work, but increases your chances of getting published and selling your work. This workshop will help you identify or refine your audience.

*DELAYED DUE TO COVID-19 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

May Quick Tip: Symbolism & Metaphor

Symbolism, metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole. Figurative language is a great way to amplify your writing, ignite your readers’ imagination and help them engage with your work in unique and active ways. This workshop will give you an overview of the types of figurative language so you can introduce nuance and complexity to your craft.

March Quick TipSubmitting To Writing Competitions

Whether you want practice, exposure, or some extra cash in your pocket, writing competitions offer fantastic opportunities for writers. Unfortunately, many writers don't get past the first round of judging because of some very simple oversights - and not all of them have to do with the quality of the writing itself. This workshop will run through the many do's and don'ts when submitting to writing competitions, so that you can start getting shortlisted.

Held on the 3rd of March 2020.

February Quick TipCultivating Creativity and Ideas

Struggling with writers' block? Can't come up with anything original? We've all been there; if it's not you now, it will be you later. Fortunately, everyone has their own unique creative process; the trick is to understand your own so you don't fall into an unproductive rut. During this workshop, work through a number of writing exercises and cognitive tricks to get those creative cogs oiled and rolling.

Held on the 4th of February 2020.

January Quick Tip: Master The Hook

Knowing how to write a hook is paramount for any author writing in this age of instant gratification, short attention spans, and growing competition. This workshop will cover how to capture your readers' attention with your first sentence, page, and chapter, so they'll be dying to know what happens next.

Held on the 7th of January 2020.
