The late theatre director Ralph Wilson staged 200 plays in the national capital, introducing Canberrans to the great classics of the stage, stirring up fiery debate in the theatre world and as Principal of Canberra High School, teaching generations of school children to look beyond the superficial.
To mark 25 years since his death, a group of Canberra theatre practitioners have joined Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres to mount a celebration of his life in ‘The Ralph,’ the theatre named after him in Gorman Arts Centre.
From lunchtime to evening on May 28, the exact 25th anniversary of his death, there will excerpts from the plays he loved, the laying of a plaque in his memory, reminiscences, imagery and an exhibition of watercolour paintings of his productions by the man himself.
A special treat will be performances from Wilson’s favourite Brecht works by the young actors of Daramalan College Theatre.
