Learn the fundamentals of Radio Broadcasting and Journalism About this Event Fully subsidised government course starts January 30 - be quick! Curious about a media career but don't know where to start? This is a perfect opportunity to get a taste of the skills you need to work in radio or journalism. This is a fee-free six day course run by industry professionals at TAFE NSW's Ultimo campus, close to Central Station. Recent grads of our courses are working at KIIS FM, The Edge 96.1, the NRL, Fox Sports, Triple J, ABC Grandstand, and ABC News. In this short course you will do a quick, effective radio journalism project, that will give you skills and a bit of experience across a range of jobs in the industry. You will work with industry experts, and touch on topics of presenting, interviewing, running radio equipment, producing shows, and creating text, video and audio, for modern journalism. This basic starter course is a good taste of the full-time Certificate IV in Screen and Media, which has one version for Radio and another for Journalism. Thursday 30 January to 7 February 2020 Timetable: Week 1: Thursday and Friday, 9:30am-4pm each day. Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30am-4pm each day. You’ll learn how to use social media for research and investigation and industry-standard CMS, MoJo (mobile journalism), MoPho (mobile photography), how to record and edit audio and video, and some radio and TV presentation. You have the opportunity to publish work on our student news site Sydney TAFE Media. Diploma Screen and Media (Journalism) An intermediate level, practical course, focused on contemporary and future-looking journalism practices. You will learn advanced writing, interviewing, and editing skills, video and audio journalism and multimedia storytelling. You will be helped and encouraged to apply for work experience and internship positions, and opportunities exist for editing the student news site Sydney TAFE Media. Certificate IV Screen and Media (General Media, PT evening) ) This course introduces students to the foundations of good media production: writing, research and interviewing. You’ll learn blogging and social media, MoJo (mobile journalism), photography, and some radio and TV presentation. You have the opportunity to publish work on our student news site Sydney TAFE Media. Advanced Diploma Screen and Media (Radio and Journalism) This course is an intermediate-to-advanced level, building on the skills from the Diploma. It focuses on the various aspects of innovation in media, with a specific focus on radio, journalism and online media. You will continue use analysis of media industry practices to design, develop and implement an innovative media project. You will develop your storytelling techniques for a variety of platforms, including radio and online, audio, video and multimedia production. You will develop one or more major pieces for your portfolio. Opportunities exist for taking leadership roles in the student radio station TAFE Radio and online news site Off Campus. Radio: Certificate IV Screen and Media (Radio Broadcasting) This course gives students skills in writing, researching and programming for commercial, community and public radio. You’ll learn the technical skills of production, recording and editing audio for broadcast. Students broadcast live and produce podcasts for our station, Sydney TAFE Radio. You will also be encouraged to join a community radio station to build up on-air hours and increase your presentation skills. Diploma Screen and Media (Radio Broadcasting) This course is an intermediate, practice course focused on the various aspects of radio broadcasting and building on skills gained in the Certificate IV. You will continue learning every aspect of radio production and presentation, including video and multimedia production for online. You will be helped and encouraged to apply for work experience and internship positions, and opportunities exist for taking leadership roles in the student radio station Sydney TAFE Radio.
