Herbert Simon Award Lecture 2018

The Assembly of Rajk László College has elected Sinan Aral as the 2018 recipient of the Herbert Simon Award. We cordially invite you to the Herbert Simon Award Ceremony and the open lecture held by the awardee on June 14th, 6pm. The title of the lecture will be Unconventional analytics: business in the age of social influence. The lecture will be held in English. Due to the limited number of seats, prior registration is required.

About Sinan Aral

Sinan Aral is a David Austin Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management where he holds a joint appointment in the IT and Marketing groups and co-leads the Initiative on the Digital Economy and the Digital Analytics Lab. Professor Aral is a leading expert on Social Networks, Social Media and Digital Strategy. He uses state of the art quantitative methods to analyse business and social science problems. In his research he seek to answer questions such as how habits, usage of products or fake news spread in network around and between people. He has worked closely with Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft, the New York Times, IBM, Cisco, Intel, Oracle, SAP and many other leading Fortune 500 firms on realizing business value from social media and information technology investments.

About the Herbert Simon Award

The internationally recognized Herbert Simon award was founded by the members of the Rajk László College of Advanced Studies in 2004. In each year, the college members nominate business theorists for the award whose outstanding academic work had a lasting impression on the professional development of the students. We aim to raise the quality of Hungary’s academic life by inviting top academics of their field, and by introducing new methodologies and research fields. Our awardees so far came from the most renowned business schools of the world like Harvard, MIT, Stanford and Berkeley.

The lecture is organized by Rajk László College for Advanced Studies with the contribution of Institute of Economics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA KTI).

Herbert Simon Díjátadó 2018

A Rajk László Szakkollégium kollégiumi gyűlése Sinan Aralt választotta meg 2018 Simon-díjasának. Szeretettel meghívjuk Önt a Herbert Simon Díjátadóra és a díjazott előadásra, ami június 14-én kerül 6 órakor kerül megrendezésre. Sinan Aralról

Sinan Aral az MIT Sloan School of Management David Austin Management professzora, valamint az Initiative on the Digital Economy és az Digital Analytics Lab vezetője. Sinan Aral a szociális hálók, social media, social influence és a digitális stratégia szakértője. Kutatásaiban kvanitatív módszereket és nagyszabású kísérleteket használ üzleti és társadalmi kérdések vizsgálatára. Olyan kérdésekre keresi a választ, mint hogy hogyan terjednek szokások, termékek használata és a fake news az embereket körülvevő hálózatokban. Munkája során együttműködött a Facebookkal, Yahoo-val, Microsofttal, a New York Times-szal, IBM-mel, Cisco-val, Intellel, Oracle-lel, SAP-vel és sok más Fortune 500 céggel, hogy a social media és az IT befektetések segítségével üzleti értéket teremtsenek. 

A Herbert Simon-díjról

Az immár több mint tízéves múltra visszatekintő Herbert Simon-díjat 2004-ben alapította a Rajk László Szakkollégium. A kollégium tagsága azon elméleti szakembereket ismeri el e díjjal, kiknek akadémiai munkássága kiemelkedően hozzájárult üzleti problémák megoldásához, valamint jelentősen hatottak a kollégisták szakmai fejlődésére, gondolkodására. A Herbert Simon-díjhoz hozzátartozik, hogy a díjazott nyilvános előadást és zártkörű, kiscsoportos kurzust tart a kollégiumban. A világhírű szakemberek fogadása mindig nagy esemény a kollégiumban: a kollégisták az alkalomra egy kiadványt állítanak össze a díjazott írásaiból, hozzájárulva ezzel, hogy az üzleti tudományok legfrissebb eredményei magyarul is hozzáférhetők legyenek.
