Speculating Through Movies 2: Upstream Color
The second film in the series revolves around questions proposed by Anthropocene debate. We invite you to speculate on the themes together over popcorn!
“A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.” (IMDB)
A science-fiction film with an impressionistic style that heavily relies on sound and the senses, and can be interpreted in the context of an “Anthropocene Imaginary” (Kara, 2016). Through this lens, the film can be read as projecting environmental exploitation and anxiety onto human bodies.
