Perhaps the greatest disincentive to opioid pharmacotherapy for opioid dependence is the need for supervised dosing, which is inconvenient, time-consuming, expensive and often poorly compatible with life activities that hallmark “recovery”.

Two depot buprenorphine products, Buvidal® (Camurus) and Sublocade® (Indivior) have been submitted for consideration of listing under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in Australia.

 How and when will these treatments be rolled out in Australia? Are there any down sides to this new treatment modality? Will it change people’s preference for treatment medication? How will dose tapering towards eventual “graduation” be accomplished? These and other questions will be dealt with in this seminar.

Course Objectives

At the end of this seminar, the participant will be able to:

1. Show understanding of the clinical pharmacology of the different depot buprenorphine products and formulations, and how that translates into treatment guidelines.
2. Show familiarity with the safety and side effect profiles of these medications, including precautions and contraindications.
3. Show knowledge of induction and dosing schedules for depot buprenorphine.
4. Demonstrate an informed approach to treatment matching among opioid pharmacotherapies including depot buprenorphine.

Join us from 6:30pm for a light evening meal, with the seminar commencing at 7:00pm sharp. The seminar will also be available online to those who select an online webinar ticket, which is generally allocated to those who are outside of the Sydney metropolitan area.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Public Transport
The Charles Perkins Centre is a 10 minute bus ride from Sydney CBD. Closest stops are either on Parramatta Rd or Missenden Rd, with a 5-minute walk from the bus stop. Alternatively, the venue is a 20-minute walk from Central and Redfern stations. Refer to Transport NSW Trip Planner to plan your trip accordingly.

Bicycle
Several bicycle racks are available around Charles Perkins Centre, within a short walk from the venue.

Parking
If you require parking we suggest either using the casual parking options on Western Ave or consider one of the parking options available at RPA Hospital. Attendees must bear the cost of parking and are responsible for ensuring they follow parking regulations and road rules.

Taxi
The closest taxi rank is located near the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse on Salisbury Rd. If phoning for a taxi, you can request it to pick up/drop off at John Hopkins Drive behind RPA Hospital.
