Exquisite, transcendent choral music by a world-leading vocal ensemble, renowned for its passion and precision.
The last time Tenebrae were in Australia they won standing ovations for their astonishing precision, beauty of sound and impassioned interpretations.
Conducted by former King’s singer Nigel Short, this award-winning a cappella choir brings two programs to Sydney: the darkly expressive music of Tomás Luis de Victoria in Masterworks of the Renaissance; and inspiring modern miniatures by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Holst and others, starring mezzo soprano Martha McLorinan as soloist, in Music of the Spheres.
For Music of the Spheres, Tenebrae has gathered some of Britain’s greatest poets and composers: Shakespeare, Shelley, Byron, Tennyson and Milton, in settings by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Holst and others.
Crowning the program is Songs of Farewell by Hubert Parry, the composer who gave us Jerusalem and I Was Glad.
