TRACE curated by KNESH SPACE
What stories can a building or a neighborhood tell? What memories do spaces contain?
----Exhibition, walk, artist talk and workshop on the art of listening to the stories of a local neighborhood in old Cairo----
· Oral history walk by Mohamed Wahdan from Lala Studio through Darb El-Labbana (Khalifa District)
· Cairo-based urban scholar Vanessa Lehmann in conversation with the Iranian artist and scholar Saba Zavarei on how to give a platform to the voices that are removed from the city
· Workshop by Sophia New from the Berlin-based Collective Plan B performances - Learn how to record stories and traces of urban transformation through creative methods and tools
Throughout the afternoon, we will take you on an exploration of the neighborhood and encounter alternative ways to get in touch with local heritage and history beyond the museum or Lonely Planet guides.
The event is curated by KNESH SPACE, an art initiative that creates unexpected cultural interventions in different urban sites and cities. The initiative also publishes an online journal on critical and creative spatial practices and promotes the role of arts and culture as catalysts for urban social change.
Please be aware that it will be more difficult to join the event after 3:30pm, as we will move as a group through the neighborhood and won't stay in the same place.
Starting point will be at Lala Studio which is in Darb El-Labbana, in the same building as the Cairo Institue for Liberal Arts and Sciences (CILAS), opposite El-Refai Mosque.
The event will be in Arabic and English.
As space is limited, please reserve your spot by buying a ticket beforehand.
Tickets include all the costs for the event - also the entry fee to get access to different sites that we will visit.
