Come and listen to esteemed clincial psychologist Dr Reshie Joseph, MBBS, MSc sharing his expertise on Psychological Trauma. This seminar will be extremely eye opening and attendees will leave with a lot of questions answered and a wealth of new knowledge which could perhaps be the first steps to the healing of their own trauma, or a whole lot more understanding of someone else's. Psychological trauma at the simplest level is a wound to the mind of an individual that remains unhealed. How this mental wound occurs can be obvious (such as being a soldier in a war) or subtle (like being the repeated victim of bullying in school). The event or events themselves are not the important factor. They key factor is that the wound remains unrecognised, unresolved and unhealed. Most commonly known is PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), the first formal diagnosis of trauma recognised by the medical profession in 1980. We have come a long way since then, and now know from the research that psychological trauma is in fact much more complex than previously thought, and extends much much further than that most people - and even mental health professionals realise. Some of the obvious questions that immediately arise are:
*What exactly is psychological trauma?
*What does it do to people?
*Does it only happen to people who've lived through life threatening events?
*How do you know you have it?
*Can it be cured?
Clinical Psychologist Dr. Reshie Joseph explains the different kinds of psychological traumas and what the neuroscience tells us about them. He specialises in Addictions, Trauma and Other Disorders of Extreme Stress and successfully treats clients using cutting edge neuroscience. This is a seminar aimed at the general public as well as professionals working in mental health. Dr Joseph is passionate about sharing his extensive expertise. Q&A at the end of the talk.
