UON Research Workshop (Singapore)

Join us for a Research Workshop this July and hear from our experienced researchers as they share their research projects and expertise. You will have the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge on research methodologies, writing and publishing as well as, time management -  all are important skills to have as a future remarkable researcher!

UON Singapore is pleased to have representatives from the Newcastle Business School Professor Morris Altman, Dean and Associate Professor Frank Agbola, Deputy Head of School to deliver the workshops, as well UON lecturers based in Singapore to share their research projects.

Professor Morris Altman, Dean and Head of School (Newcastle Business School)

A former visiting scholar at Cornell, Duke, Hebrew, and Stanford Universities, and Elected Visiting Fellow at St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge University, Morris Altman is Dean & Head of the Newcastle Business School and Professor of Behavioural & Institutional Economics, University of Newcastle. Professor Morris has published about 100 refereed papers on behavioral economics, x-inefficiency theory, institutional change, economics of cooperatives, economic history, methodology, and empirical macroeconomics and five books in economic theory and public policy. Associate Professor Frank Agbola , Deputy Head of School (Newcastle Business School)

Dr Frank Agbola joined the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2002. Prior to this, Dr Agbola held lecturing positions at Monash University, Australia, Curtin University, Australia, and University of Queensland, Australia. Dr Agbola has a strong background in applied econometrics, development economics and agricultural economics and has published in several top-tier refereed journals.His research expertise is in the area of Applied Econometrics, Development Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Economics, Financial Economics, Tourism Economics and SMEs. Dr Charles Lee, Program Convenor and Senior Lecturer (B. Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety)

Dr. Lee obtained his BSc from the University of Guelph, Canada, and his MSc and PhD from the University of Hawaii, USA. He has more than 25 years' experience in environmental research, teaching and consulting in North America, and Asia-Pacific countries. His experience encompasses consulting at one of the top environmental consulting firms in the USA, R&D at the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*Star), and academic teaching and research at UON. Dr Kavitha Palaniappan, Academic Director and Senior Lecturer (B. Evironmental Occupational Health & Safety)

Kavitha holds a doctorate in Environmental Health Engineering from Sri Ramachandra Medical University, India.  She has been with the University of Newcastle, Australia, since January 2010. She is  actively involved in research related to the effects of lead exposure on children, mental health illnesses on adults, alternative approaches to enhance sleep, epidemiology of dengue fever, climate change, biofuels and nanotoxicology.  She is a member of IOSH and Nanosing Initiative of Singapore. Dr Rita Rosita Pidani, Lecturer and Program Coordinator (Undergraduate Business)

Rita received her PhD in Economics from the University of Newcastle, Australia. She has been with the University of Newcastle, Australia campus, since July 2010 as a sessional tutor and lecturer and then as full-time lecturer, Singapore campus, from July 2014.View profile here

Dr Vahid Biglari, Lecturer (Undergraduate Business)

Dr. Vahid Biglari had Ph.D. in financial reporting and accounting. Prior to joining UON Singapore, he was lecturer at Henley Business School, University of Reading Malaysia, and assistant professor at UCSI University, Malaysia. In addition, Vahid spent several years outside academia in accounting and audit industries to supplement his academic knowledge with practical application. View profile here
