UX CRASH COURSE AUCKLAND

This course gives you hands-on experience of a digital UX design project from start to finish in an intense one day workshop.

On this course you take a project through a complete design life cycle from initial research, to ideation, to design to user testing. As well as gaining practical experience of the some of the most common user experience design methods as you work through the project you learn the principles behind them so you can make good decisions about what approach and methods will get you the best outcomes for your own projects. The goal of the day is for you to be able to take what you learn and apply it immediately to your current projects and use what you learn as a base for further study.

See the bottom of the course description for more information on choosing between the 1 day crash course and 2 day Introduction to UX design course.

Who is it for

No prior knowledge is required to do this course, it is suitable for absolute beginners.

However the course is primarily aimed at:

Graphic designers

Traditional designers who want to transition into digital design or learn how to work better with their UX colleagues.

Strategists and analysts

On the day

You will take a UX project from research to testing

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course, no previous experience with design or coding is required.

What should you bring

All materials are provided. We don't provide lunch but do provide fruit and snacks and do a coffee run!

---

Should I do the 1 day, 2 day, or 1 week User Experience Design Course?

We provide a 1 day (The UX Crash Course), 2 day (Introduction to UX design) and 1 week (UX Intensive Week) UX course.

They are all based on the same practical approach and cover similar subject matter areas but vary in the level of depth they go into and the time you get to put the methods into practice. None of them assume any previous experience with design or technology, and you should be able to start applying what you learn straight away after any of them.

We recommend the 1 day course for people who want an understanding of UX principles and experience in working on a UX project in as rapid a format as possible! You participate in a full human centered UX process, moving very quickly through each stage. You will learn enough to start applying what you learn in your regular design practice, and to use as a base for further study.

We recommend the 2 day course for people who need a more thorough grounding in the principles and methods and more time to practice putting them into action. This course covers all the material found in the 1 day course, but gives you more time to practice the methods and includes extra principles and methods we can’t fit into the 1 day course.

We recommend the week-long course for people who need to ‘level up’ and become a full UX designer, or have demanding roles that require a robust ability to apply best practice human-centered design principles to their UX work. This week can be done in addition to either the 1 day or 2 day course or can be taken as a stand-alone course. It includes all the material found in our 1 day UX courses (Crash Course, user research, information architecture, UI design, and usability testing) and the 2 day introduction course, but includes extra content that connects all these practices together and more time to experience putting everything you learn into practice.

Combining courses

The 2 day course is not designed to follow the 1 day course but is intended as an alternative for people who need more depth. We don’t recommend doing the 1 day course with the intention of following it with the 2 day course as there is a lot of overlap in course material.

All other courses (including the week-long UX intensive course) are suitable as a follow up to both the 1 day crash course and 2 day introduction course. Although there is some material overlap all the other courses go into much more depth through each step of a human-centered UX process.
