Actor Training often involves an invitation to self-reflect. This panel discussion canvases the notion of reflection in two principle areas: 1) Stanislavsky in the 21st Century as mediated and mediatised and 2) Stanislavsky in translation. Glenda Linscott explores the necessity to promote strategies to discover/recover/uncover safety, integrity, strength, abundance and self-protection n 21st century actor training. David Shirley reflects on the early impacts of Stanislavsky’s work in Australia and examines some of the tensions arising between his ‘system’ and the development of the ‘method’. Jonathan W Marshall and Renée Newman will present reflections of scholars, educators and artists from across Australasia asking what does ‘method’ mean today? (especially in light of mass mediatisation and hybridised training methodologies). The session also introduces the theme of ‘Translation,’ including what to expect at the 2021 The ‘S’ Word Symposium to be hosted by WAAPA.
