Full Circle Art Africa is proud to invite you to the opening of its latest exhibition: WAFRICA – THE QUEENS & THE BLOOD BROTHERS, a solo exhibition by French-Cameroonian artist Serge Mouangue.
The exhibition presents for the first time in Hong Kong Serge Mouange’s acclaimed work “The Blood Brothers”, uniting the work of a Cameroon Bamileke master craftsman with that of Japanese lacquer master Masaru with 40 years’ experience, The Blood Brothers highlight the “3rd esthetic” history and beauty of two cultures to create something contemporary and unique. For 9 generations, the Masaru family have served the Tokugawa Shogun dynasty, working only with Japanese materials. Specially selected sculptures from Bamileke craftsmen meet a process practiced in Japan for thousands of years.
Presented together with the Artist first and unique print of “The Queens” - Tailored design cut, made in Kyoto in collaboration with 150 years' kimono experience Odasho. Each Queen questions the origins, influences and cultural heritage. In other words, “How do we come from?”.
Wafrica works draw on Japanese refinement and attention to detail combined with West Africa rhythmic density and vibration.
